ANEW BABY IS BORN UNTO MUBARE GROUP
The good news is that a new baby is born into the Mubare Group. The infant is believed to have been born in the wee hours of Monday morning with Kashundwe the only adult female in the group confirmed as the mother.
As the trackers penetrated the impenetrable jungles in search of Mubare group on Monday morning, they encountered abandoned nests with little stains of blood. On following the gorilla trails, they encountered another set of nests-this time with more blood stains. The two sets of nests were only about 30 metres apart.
About 100 metres away, the trackers caught up with the Mubare group where they spotted Kashundwe-the only adult female in the group with an infant at a place called Habinyanja .
This indeed is very good news as no one expected a new born from the ageing Kashundwe as it now brings the number of gorilla individuals in Mubare group to five after what would bring the number to six (Maraika) decided to become an irregular member of the group as she spends most of her time in Habinyanja group.
