Recent reports from the forest have it that a love relationship has developed between Muyambi and the only
eligible female in the group, Malaika. Rangers report that the young love is budding like a yam tendril in the
rainy season and it appears that secrets trysts between the two are the order of the day. Not by any stretch of imagination can Muyambi's friends now refer to him as a sub-adult. He has become an adult (blackback  - in gorilla speak).

Muyambi,it seems,  has realized that Ruhondeza, the lead Silverback is a spent force and it is time for Muyambi to start tasting the benefits he has always been denied. Ruhondeza has been watching these events keenly but has been turning a a blind eye to them. It seems that the old gorilla has grudgingly admitted that age has caught up with him and its time to allow the young males to prove their worth. However it could also be that Ruhondeza could be scheming and strategising how to teach Muyambi a bitter lesson for crossing his boundaries as it is only
the silverback that is allowed to mate with all the females. Time will tell.

On his part Muyambi is fully aware that he can be punished severely for eating the forbidden fruit and gives
Ruhondeza a wide berth.

Meanwhile the other blackback, Kanyonyi, who has vested interests in Malaika is watching the romance with discomfort as he is the next in line to succeed Ruhondeza. He, too doesn't fancy the idea of sharing his girl - the only girl in the family - with his younger sibling.You can bet that he's hoping that Ruhondeza stirs himself up and gives Muyambi a thrashing that is long overdue.
