
Levy Rwamuhanda, the acting head ranger for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park(MGNP) is our ranger of the month for June, having demonstrated unique qualities in leadership and service delivery.

Rwamuhanda is famed for having participated in the habituation of the oldest Gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mubare,and Katendegere although the latter disintegrated
According to his supervisors, Rwamuhanda, 42, is co-operative, with a high sense of responsibility, easy relate with and quite adaptable to many situations. He is always ready to relate with people of different cultures and always ready for any challenging duties
Born in Buhoma ,Buhoma one of the communities neighboring Bwindi Impenetrable National Park(BINP) ,Rwamuhanda went to Kanyashende primary and Iryaruvumba secondary schools. In 1991 he was employed by International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP) to develop tourism trails and habituate mountain gorillas in BINP
In the two subsequent years with IGCP he actively participated in habituating Mubare and Katendegere Gorilla groups
In 1993 when tourism started in Bwindi Rwamuhanda was taken up by Uganda National Parks before it merged with the Game department to become UWA as a private ranger guide.
In 1994 he was charged with the responsibility of assisting the head guide. Owing to his recognizable potential, Rwamuhanda was sponsored by the organization to study wildlife management certificate course in Lake Katwe Wildlife Management Institute in Kasese district.
In 1997 he took the lead in habituating Habinyanja group before 2001 when he was promoted to the rank of Lance corporal and assigned the responsibility of heading all the guides in the park.
In December 2008 he was transferred to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park at the same rank and responsibility.
