The infant Katono has is slight in stature, even for an infant gorilla. Katono’s mother Shidah is also very protective over her baby and is reluctant to let her baby wander too far off.
However, when you consider that Shidah has a lame arm, her protectiveness and extra watchfulness is totally understandable. That’s not to say that Katono misses out on the all the fun to be had by an infant in the forest. There are so many other infants and juveniles to play with, and tree tops to explore, that it’s quite likely Katono doesn’t even realise that her mother is extra watchful compared to her friends (jungle friends that is) mothers.
